The Return of Morgan

Morgan's walker dumping grounds

Morgan’s walker dumping grounds

In the first episode of The Walking Dead, Morgan and his son Duane rescued a dazed and clueless Rick and started teaching him how to survive in a world gone haywire.  I don’t know about you, but ever since Rick and company moved on ending his attempts to communicate with Morgan via walkie-talkie, I’ve been waiting for Morgan to reappear. Finally, in Season Three, he did.

The small town of Grantville served as the filming location for CLEAR, the episode in which Morgan returned. Now, when I say “small town” I mean small. I grew up in a small town and it’s a metropolis compared to Grantville.

My choice

My choice

The first thing that we saw when we entered the town was the brick wall marking the location where Morgan was dumping the bodies of the walkers that he killed. We parked nearby and walked downtown. It took less than two minutes.

Grantville also marks the only location where the hubby and I disagreed about where a certain scene was filmed. DH (Dear Husband) was trying to figure out which building Morgan was holed up in; I had already spotted it, so I pointed at the cream-colored two-story building across the street.  DH insisted that it was a gray building further down the block. We finally agreed to disagree; we would just have to look for the answer online. Fortunately, just a few minutes later, we crossed paths with another family that was also touring filming locations; the dad was a fount of Walking Dead knowledge so we asked him which building it was – he pointed to my building. Woot! *pumps fist in air*

My hubby's choice

Just in case you can’t tell, I’m extremely competitive. (DH said “Duh!” when he read this. An eye roll may also have been involved.)

However, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that the hubby recognized another location immediately. The Grantville train station doubled as the restaurant where Carl and Michonne battled walkers to recover the picture of Carl’s family. It didn’t look like the same place at all to me. He was right of course; Mr.-fount-of-Walking-Dead-knowledge and the internet confirmed it. (NOTE: I re-watched the episode as I wrote this and don’t know how I missed it; it is obviously the train station.)

If you are ever in the Grantville area, stop by for a visit. The mayor of the town conducts *free* Walking Dead tours on a regular basis.
