Take Two

The original cover

The original cover

I love browsing stock photo sites looking for the perfect picture to go with my blog posts and various other projects. Last year, when looking for a picture to use as the cover for my novel for NaNoWriMo, I found the perfect nerdy couple for my short story, Virtually Yours. In fact, I loved them so much, I wanted to use them on the final book cover. Sadly, I didn’t have the tools or skills to create the cover that I could see in my mind.

I’ve confessed in the past that I’m a book cover junkie. I visit the sites of my favorite cover designers on a regular basis and have already bought covers for stories that I haven’t even written yet. When I find the perfect cover for a story, I figure why wait? I’d be heartbroken if someone else bought “my” cover. During one of my visits to ebookindiecovers I found an adorable, but slightly busy, cover that would work for Virtually Yours. It is the cover that you see at the top of this post and the cover that I used when I published my story.

However, I couldn’t get my nerdy couple out of my head. Last month, I took a Create Your Own Cover class through the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers chapter of Romance Writers of America. The class introduced me to Photoshop Elements and gave me the skills to create the cover that I envisioned, so I did. Ta da!

Virtually Yours Take Two

My cover is simple, but it is exactly what I wanted. It makes me happy!

So, now it’s your turn. Which cover do you prefer and why? I promise, my feelings won’t be hurt either way.
