Once you decide to dabble a toe into the pool of writing, you’ll learn that the waters are full of guidelines, many disguised as hard and fast rules. This important distinction was one of the first, and hardest, things that I had to learn. Some rules are irrefutable such as, every story must have a beginning, middle, and an end. Others, not so much. One of the “rules” I was taught in my very first writing class was that all chapters must be at least 5000 words in length. That’s simply not true. It may, or may not, be a good guideline, but a “rule?” Definitely not. Continue reading →

I was introduced to creative writing by my high school Freshman English teacher, Dee Munro. She was the first teacher to turn writing into something more than book reports and term papers. She is responsible for lighting the flame of what would later become a burning passion. While I don’t remember all of our writing assignments, two still stand out in my mind. Continue reading →

Yes, I write humorous romances and, for the most part, I keep my blog posts on the lighter side as well. However, as I write this post, my heart is heavy. You see, even though we don’t have an official diagnosis yet, odds are strong that my two year-old grandson suffers from autism spectrum disorder. Continue reading →

Television shows such as Forensic Files should give all evildoers pause. The least bit of DNA evidence left at a crime scene can be used to prove – beyond a reasonable doubt – who perpetrated a crime, even years after the event. (Hear that evildoers? Just stop. Now.)
